Dawn Nelson

Thanks to the generous donations of our visitors, we purchased a bench that's waiting for you at the kiosk. Take a break at the end of your hike, or enjoy a pause before you begin!

Note: This was published in the Spring/Summer 2026 Newsletter of the Community Lakes Association: https://www.communitylakesassociation.org/about-us/newsletters Imagine a marshy, wetland area. What do you see? Chances are, your thoughts include cattails. These plants are so common, so typical of our ponds and lakes, they may seem uninspired or even dull - just a monotonous green and brown blanket draped across the shallows. But take a closer look, and you may find a great blue heron...

Thank you to everyone who supported the preserve during the fundraising sale on October 11 and 12. Part of the proceeds have been used to purchase this bench, so you can comfortably take a break along the Cakewalk.
